Tips & Tricks for Fuse Beads
At Pixel Peeters, we’ve made a lot of fuse bead creations with our kids!
Along the way, we discovered little tricks that make designing, placing, and ironing beads so much easier.
Here are our favorite tips to help your creations turn out smooth, colorful, and perfectly melted every time.
Iron in Circles
Move the iron gently in small circles so the beads melt evenly. Pressing straight down can squish or bend your design.
Cool Under Weight
After ironing, put something flat and heavy—like a book—on top while it cools. This keeps your design from curling.
Shake to Settle
Before ironing, give the pegboard a tiny shake so all beads sit straight in their holes.
Iron Edges First
Start by melting the edges of your design. This helps the whole shape stay together while you iron the middle.
Flip for Strength
After ironing one side, flip your design and lightly iron the back. This makes it stronger and harder to break.
Keep Tiny Gaps
Beads should not be pushed tightly together. Little gaps help the plastic melt smoothly into the perfect shape.
Start with Simple Shapes
If you’re new, begin with small shapes like hearts, stars, or smiley faces. They’re fun and easy to finish.
Follow the Grid
Use the pegboard’s grid to help you keep lines straight and patterns even as you build.
Melt Slowly
Take your time with the iron. Slow, gentle movements help beads melt evenly without over-melting.
Let Colors Cool
Don’t lift your design too soon. Let it cool completely so the colors stay bright and the shape stays firm.
Build from the Center
For big designs, start placing beads in the middle and work your way out. It helps the design stay balanced.
Pick Colors First
Before you start, choose all your colors ahead of time. Lining them up makes building your design much easier.
